Winter Blue

I finally managed to collect some films. Work is keeping me busier than I thought. But not too busy to go horseback-riding. And to enjoy the winter.

Eowyn Ivey: The Snow Child

The Snow ChildThe Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Somehow I expected more magic. I thought that it was simply a nice story of an elderly couple finding their way in their new home in Alaska. I think that Faina's existence or identity (whatever you may call it) could have been anything but there were no real consequences of her supposedly being a snow child.

I think it's okay for a debut as a writer. But I don't think it's a novel I'd recommend as a must-read.

Caturday (reactivated)

Bringing back the weekly cats, on popular demand (mine...and the cats because I can project onto them as much as I want).
Here they are all cute and cuddly and we love each other a lot.

Happy new year! Have a book review.

Life of PiLife of Pi by Yann Martel
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

On the third attempt I managed to get past the boring part 1 (my uncle got stuck there too). I still fail to see why we had to get into all the detail about his religion.
Then part two was a lot of things. Entertaining. Dull. Disgusting. All of these things. And part 3 disturbed me.
I think, the movie could still be good. But I do not see why there is such a fuss made about the book. I thought it was average in execution, style and storyline. So, I read it and that's that.
