Per Petterson: Out stealing horses

Out Stealing HorsesOut Stealing Horses by Per Petterson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Again I find myself in need for half stars. So: 2,5.

I picked up up twice. The first time I gave up after some 70 pages. I just couldn't seem to care and the style was too neutral.

As I picked it up again two days ago, I immediately fell into the flow of the narrative and found the neutrality rather relaxing. It didn't demand a lot of me. All I had to do was read and it is an easy and quick read.

The story as such. Well I think it's about an ordinary person that has experienced something that isn't so extraordinary but that changed his life. That's it. It won't really change my life or won't leave a huge impression on me but I still enjoyed the story and taking part of that summer (and winter) of the protagonists life.

Haruki Murakami: 1Q84

1Q84 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Especially book three took forever to finish. I was not enjoying Ushikawa, it felt as if it was a recap for everyone who didn't read the books in one go. I skipped a lot of those chapters.

I enjoyed a lot of it. I loved the metafiction, really enjoyed Aomame (especially in book 1) and Haruki Murakami again managed to pull of a magical realism (I wonder if there will be one character who'll shake his head and declare the other person mad, but they always seem to accept whatever is thrown their way. Remarkable, really).

In the end I wished that the storyline of the Little People would have been explored more and less the love story. I felt Aomame lost some of her self-sufficiency (whatever you may call it).

But still, worth a read and I enjoyed myself a lot. I simply struggled with book 3 and longingly stared at the books on my to-read-shelf. Maybe I'm just impatient. :-)

spin spin spin

Some recent Spinner shots. I missed film photography. And i really love the Spinner. This was taken at 8pm on a really hot day. I spotted wild deer. It was wonderful.

The last one was so old, that I had to wreck my brain to remember where I shot that. I'm still not quite sure, since it is so distorted. But I like it.

Wedding: Battenberg

The lastest wedding job I feared would be difficult. The weather was a nightmare at first. Torrential rain and wind. And then, in the evening, the sun came out and we got to shoot wonderful photos.
