Jenny Lawson: Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir

Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True MemoirLet's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Read it on a recommendation of a friend. And it is indeed hilarious. I had a brief (recurring) frown on my face, wondering why someone would display their parents and themselves as slightly ...crazy. But I get it. And, having an anxiety disorder myself (which I however treat differently and I wonder if she just needs another way to deal with hers but these things always overthinking and stuff), I found myself in the panic attack chapter (and yet I didn't because even though I share the symptoms...anyway...this isn't the point. I'm rambling.) and it is comforting to know that there are people out there, living even weirder lives and being happy about it. (Provided this all really never knows, right?)

Anyway. I recommend it further. :-)

a catty Christmas

Is catty a word? If so, does it refer to an abundance of cat related things? Let's assume it does. Have some photos to go with the word.

First, destroy magazine

next sit on it

if the head fits...

this also happened

In light of the last photo...have a video:

See...catty. But honestly, Christmas as always means lots of people at our home. But it's nice. If stressful. And the weather sucked (warmest Christmas ever). Oh and a pile of random presents:

 (Mine, to be precise)

Happy Holidays

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas time. Sorry I have been so silent these last weeks but I started a new job and had to rethink my life and it needed all my energy and time. I'm sure next year will be better. At least I hope so. :-)

Instaweek 4

new sofa, not wanted by the cats
lots of snow, melted by now
Christmas cookies
a trail ride in the snow

Not photographed: me being down with a cold.
Hence the silence.

I'm still alive. But I've been busy, so the blog wasn't really a priority. However, I have some new shots to share with you from today's shoot with my friend Wencke. Theme: 20s. I'm happy with the result.

HP Lovecraft: At the mountains fo MAdness

At the Mountains of Madness and Other Tales of TerrorAt the Mountains of Madness and Other Tales of Terror by H.P. Lovecraft
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

At the mountains of Madness
This did not work for me because in the first half, I felt as if I was reading a book about geology. And in the second one about architecture. Sadly the style made it impossible for me to come up with a film (which I usually see behind my eyes while reading) and I failed to come up with a probable image for the old me they took on the shape of grey potatoes with wings and stars on their heads and butts. I'm attempting the short stories next.

The Shunned House
We are getting there. Creepier. And not so scientific. But the actual creepy part was so quick. Too much built up. But...plunging on.

The Dreams in the Witch House
Quite enjoyed that one until the aliens from story one made a cameo. *headdesk* But as a short story, I really liked it because it felt like a full fledged story. Can't quite express it otherwise.

The statement of Randolph Carter
Well that was that. Got nothing.

As a whole...judging from the cover I expected more. The cover freaks me out, the rest...not so much.

Truman Capote: In Cold Blood

In Cold BloodIn Cold Blood by Truman Capote
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

That was intense. Impossible to put down and keeping me alive and sometimes made an appearance at night. I wonder whether it is the content (which I knew about before) or the style. But I'd say this is a must read. And after you read it, you go and watch the movie "Capote" which is brilliant.

Harry Potter - book 1

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As it came out I felt too old for this. I was off to university and reading Shakespeare and Tony Morrison. At least, that's when I became aware the book existed.

Now, 32 years old, I feel to be the right age to pick it up and, not expecting much, I really really liked it. Of course I had the images of the movie stuck in my head (I actually watched the first one, but it didn't catch my interest) but that's not so bad. I now understand how generations even want to live in this world, pick houses to belong to. It is a warm and fuzzy story despite it being not about happy things all the time.

Now I need to get my hands on the next book (I'm lacking 3, the others I bought for 1 Euro on flea markets). And, believe it or not, I am completely unspoiled for what happens next. (I think I have watched the movie with David Tennant in it...but I might have skipped to his scenes...despite the awesomeness of the cast...maybe I'll watch the movies after I read the books).

Okay, off to hunt for book 2.

I don't even know what the fly needs all that hair for but whatever.

The dragonfly seems to live in our garden. It flew around me and always came back to study me in another position just as I studied it. Creepy yet fascinating (I could even touch it).

Charles Dickens: David Copperfield

David Copperfield David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I seem to pick up the long books recently. And then I complain that they take forever to end. :-)

This one I started maybe last year even. And then abandoned it half way through. I picked it up again, enjoyed it, laughed, cried, and finished it today. I'm glad I did because even though it holds a lot of information, it is a wonderful read and I recommend it to everyone who likes classics and the story of a person's life.

the horse is good

Two days ago my riding instructor Sonja and I met up early in the morning to shoot some photos. Our male model on this occasion was Beppo, an eleven year old Appaloosa stallion.

Vor ein paar Tagen haben sich meine Reitlehrerin und ich zusammengetan, um ein paar Fotos zu schießen. Unterstützt wurden wir dabei von Beppo, einem 11-jährigen Appaloosahengst.

More information about the ranch can be found here.

And the winner is

I told you about the camera that I won, some weeks ago.

It arrived about a week ago and of course I had to try it out straight away:

I like it, because it feels good to carry around. It's stable (which I cannot say for either the Diana Mini or the Diana F+) and easy to handle and once you remember to better put in a 400 ISO film, you'll be fine.

Find out more about the La Sardina here. It comes in a pretty package created with love and that is why Lomography is precious. They care.
